Oscar Academy Award - Best Actress Nominations
The five nominees for the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Oscar Academy Award 2011 on the 27th February 2011 are Annette Bening, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams.
Last year Sandra Bullock won the Worst Female Performance for the Razzie Award for her role as socially awkward designer of newspaper crosswords who stalks a cameraman played by Bradley Cooper in ‘All About Steve’. Ironically, having been named the worst actress, she then went to win the Best Actress gong at the Oscar Award 2010 for her role in in an Amerian football drama ‘The Blind Side.’ She plays the role of Leigh Anne Tuohey who help a homeless and traumatised boy, Michael Oher, on his journey to become an All-American football player and first round NFL draft pick. The 45-year-old actress, Sandra Bullock was the hot favourite to win at the Oscar last year.
Although the King’s Speech is the forerunner to sweep the Oscar 2011 and the darling to win for the Oscar Academy Award - Best Actor nominies to win the award is Colin Firth and including the best picture. On the contrary, when it comes to the best actress category, this year’s Oscar is seen to be a battle between Natalie Portman and Annette Benning. Natalie Portman who is best known for her role as Queen Amidala in the Star Trek Trilogy gave a compelling performance as the lead actress in the ballet thriller 'The Black Swan'. In the movie, the 29-year-old actress plays as a tormented young ballet dancer, Nina Sayers, who landed a leading role in ‘Swan Lake’ as the White Swan and at the same time, plays the role of the Black Swan. She then became more and more obsess to be the latter. Natalie Portman has already won the Golden Globe award and SAG award for the’ Black Swan’.
On the other hand, Annette Bening in ‘The Kids are Alright’ plays as a lesbian mother alongside her lesbian partner Julianne Moore in the movie. A postmodern family story, they raised two test tube children who searched and managed to track down their biological sperm donor . The 52-year old actress is not new Oscar nomination. Annette Benning has been previously nominated for her role in ‘The Gifters’, ‘American Beauty’ and ‘Being Julia’ but failed to win the award on all occasions.
The Other nominees for the Best Actress Academy Award are Michelle Williams for her heartbreaking role in ‘Blue Valentine’, newcomer Jennifer Lawrence for her work in ‘Winter’s Bone’ and Oscar Best Actress winner in 2003 Nicole Kidnman for her moving role in the movie ‘Rabbit Hole’.

Everybody talks about Natalie’s remarkable and striking performance in the ‘The Black Swan’ that she won the Golden Globe Award for best actress in a movie. However, this does not mean that she could win the Oscar even though the heavily pregnant Natalie Portman is the hot odds favourite to win. Her biggest rival will be Annette Bening who also won the Golden Globe best actress in a comedy or musical, is nominated for the 4th time and due to this, it could sway the voters to finally give the award to her. Natalie Portman not winning the Oscar might be a big upset nevertheless this will not be the first time that the favourite loses on the night. The Oscar Academy Award for best actress will be a showdown between Natalie Portman and Annette Bening.
