How did Champions League Start-of-the-Season Favorites do?
The pre-season markets, as always, heavily backed the established elite, with Manchester City and Real Madrid priced around 3.50 and 4.50 respectively. However, the Citizens’ European dream became a nightmare in the last-16. Bayern, spearheaded by Harry Kane, were utterly ruthless, highlighted by a 10-2 aggregate demolition of Atalanta in the last-16, proving their undeniable pedigree.
Meanwhile, Arsenal, initially tipped as dark horses around 8.00, capitalised on a favourable draw. The Gunners went unbeaten in their first 14 matches, powered by Declan Rice and an immense backline, reaching the final in Budapest before their heartbreaking penalty defeat. Ultimately, the new format ensured that financial dominance alone could not guarantee an easy ride, forcing the heavy favourites to sweat until the very end.
How did the predicted bottom-of-the-barrel do?
While the Champions League does not have “relegation” in the domestic sense, the new league phase format brings a brutal equivalent: early elimination for the bottom 12 teams. Before a ball was kicked, punters heavily backed the minnows from smaller leagues (namely Qarabağ FK and FK Bodø/Glimt) to finish dead last, effectively pricing their early exit at odds of 1.10.

One of the ways to see if there are clear favourites in the championship is to check the BTTS stats. For the last season, we had BTTS in 12% of the matches. This year, the number is even lower which can also mean that there aren’t enough goals being scored. This is also the reason why you should check multiple stats and then make a decision. More goals per match but fewer “both teams to score” matches means that we usually had a clear favourite.
CL – Half-Time Stats
There were some matches with a lot of goals in the first half which has one of the best odds, especially for the Champions League predictions.
