Cyprus sensation is big underdog in this matchup.
APOEL has won first place in Group G and even there was not some big favorite in the group the opponents in the group were everything but easy.
Thanks to first place they will play decisive 90 minutes at home, and in my opinion Lyon is not the favorite as bookies have set them.
APOEL was in front of Zenit, Porto and Shakhtar and their 1/8 finals opponent Lyon is on the same level, definitely not much better, than mentioned teams, so APOEL will have better chances than bookies predict.
Lyon has secured position in playoffs with lot of luck, and their last round win in Zagreb against Dinamo was made with unexpectedly big goal difference, and that was not thanks to great quality from Lyon players, but very weak Dinamo.
The first leg will be played in February and it looks like Lyon will have lot of job in domestic league, since there are many teams with big ambitions and it will be hard for them to get place for CL for the next season.
At the other hand APOEL is leader in Cyprus and they could make bigger point difference before February than opponents in domestic league, so they should have more time to focus on this matchup.
APOEL remind me on Greek team in EURO 2004, they are playing tough and most of the matches are tie and there are wins with one goal difference. They will probably not go to the finals like Greek, but they could definitely do some damage to some stronger teams.
Lyon will not have easy job against APOEL and there is value in betting on APOEL to advance.

Have you followed APOEL in group stage? They showed that they are definitely not team for one match by winning first place in front of Zenit, Porto and Shakhtar. I do agree French championship is class above than Cyprus, but Russian, Ukrainian and Portuguese are class above, too.

Can't agree with this bet. That dream win of Lyon that nobody expected in Zagreb would count for nothing if Lyon would fail against the modests of Nicosia who shoouldn't be here.
I bet Lyon will win both matches!

Mirandes has made huge surprise by advancing to semifinals. APOEL has great discipline and they probably have no chance with teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid, but in case of good draw they could continue with sensational results in Europe. Almost no one didn't believe in Greece team in mentioned EURO 2004 and they have made best result in their history.

Can't agree with you - this bet looks for me pretty risky - APOEL can make some surprise in one of matches ,but overall Lyon is much better team - and after months of break french championship is classes above cyprus !
