MC ILROY, WOODS, MICKELSON, JOHNSON, WATNEY, CHOI OR DAY TO WIN US MASTERS 2012
Final result: 0 - 1Profit: 0.00 - 2 = -2
The first Major of the season is the US Masters and all of the worlds greatest players will converge on Augusta National with the aspiration of walking off the 18th green on Sunday with the coveted Green Jacket
All the tournaments leading up to the Masters, despite the polite comments of the competitors, are basically preparation for the opening Major of 2012 and this is the fist tournament that all the top players will have pinpointed as their goal from the start of the season and we could see fireworks with the tournament wide open and so many players in fine form
Basically my strategy for a Major like this is to take 3 players whom I really fancy to do well and another 4 who are outsiders but have excellent prices and could make a run come Sunday afternoon. My 3 main players who I fancy to do well are Mc Ilroy, Woods & Mickelson who I will place 6 points on overall as follows:
Rory Mc Ilroy (2 points @ odds of 7.5 on William Hill): We all remember the melt down Rory suffered last season here but for 3 rounds he was untouchable and his subsequent US Open triumph later in 2011 proved he has not only the game but the mental capacity to win Majors. I'd be surprised if Rory isn't in contention come Sunday afternoon as he knows how to play this course and looks ready for more Majors
Tiger Woods( 2 points @ odds of 6 on Bwin): Tiger is on his way back and is looking fit & healthy. His game is following suit and the 14 time Major champion (4 times here at Augusta) looks like he's ready to take on the so called 'top ranked players' who are ranked above him but aren't in the same league. Woods could make a return to the winners circle at the Majors right here this season and I'm backing him as part of my picks
Phil Mickelson (2 points @ odds of 19 on Sportingbet): Many have written off Phil in recent times but for me his only focus is on adding Majors to his current haul of 4, including 3 right here at the Masters. He isn't interested in world ranking points or second rate events and make no mistake will be targeting this event between now & April and if he gets himself within a few shots of the leaders come Sunday they'll all be looking over their shoulders throughout the day as Mickelson won't back off that's for sure
Apart from these 3 there are a host of others that are capable of going well here and I'm picking 4 with 1 point being staked on each as follows:
Dustin Johnson (1 point @ odds of 41 on Betvictor): Like Mc Ilroy at Augusta Dustin suffered a similar collapse at the US Open 2 seasons ago but whilst he hasn't won a Major yet he has come back strong and competes hard at the big events. He has the game for competing with the best and his price is sure to fall between now & April as he finds form
Nick Watney (1 point @ odds of 34 on Skybet): Another young ambitious golfer who has bags of potential and has threatened to deliver without doing so on the biggest stage. This is the Major most likely to see a Nick Watney Major triumph in my opinion and his odds are very attractive. He's capable of getting on great runs of birdies and if he starts well in round 1 he should hang in there over the weekend
KJ Choi (1 Point @ odds of 67 on Ladbrokes): The South Korean is always a name that tends to appear at the higher reaches of leaderboards come Sunday afternoons when the big events take place and he has the game to compete around this course. His odds are excellent and he may just have a shot come the back 9 on Sunday
Jason Day (1 point @ odds of 34 on Betfred) : The young Australian made a name for himself in recent seasons with several runner up finishes in Majors including here last season. This experience should help him to provide a realistic challenge in the opening Major at Augusta
Overall I think Mc Ilroy & Woods have the potential to make this tournament a head to head battle so if this happens we will return a small profit form these selections regardless of eventual winner
However Mickelson shouldn't be written off and as my 3rd main pick he would deliver a good return here for us
As for the 4 outsiders I've selected well either one of them coming through to take the green jacket would provide an excellent return for us so that's what I'm hoping for with the big hitters in reserve!
My bets here are 10 points spread over:
Mc Ilroy, Woods & Mickelson (2 points each)
Johnson, Watney, Choi & Day (1 point each)
Good Luck

Big Phil took last weekend off following a playoff loss that came hot on the heels of his Pebble Beach triumph. The best price available on Phil now is 10's and he's going to have a great shout come Sunday in the Masters going by his current form, experience of the Augusta course and also his schedule is clearly based on being ready for the Masters

Amazingly given the trouble Phil constantly found himself in he'll probably be happy just to score a 74 as it could easily have been a 76 or 77 to end his tournamant before it even got going.. 7 back after day 1 isn't good but if he gets some momentum going early in day 2 then I wouldn't write him off just yet

Following big Phil's commanding victory at the AT&T last weekend his odds for the Masters have almost halved so we have great value here for anyone who took the early price. Mickelson also destroyed Woods head to head over those last 18 holes together and this will have encouraged him big time as we get closer to Augusta. It should also have confirmed to Woods that he still isn't back to where he needs to be so should provide him with plenty of motivation between now and then as well
