The Rome Masters is really hotting up with this clash of two heavyweights of the game - Del Potro, a masterful clay player and one of the greatest players never to have won a major versus the flamboyant and hugely talented Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Both players are at home on clay and the surface advantage is negligible.

Tsonga had a bye into the second round wherea Potro endured a difficult passage with a hard-fought 3-set victory over frenchman Llodra 7-5 3-6 6-4. Both players then breezed past their second round opponents in straight sets breaking twice apiece in both sets.

Del Potro is having a tremendous season so far, with a W31-L7 record and two titles - Tsonga is a rather less impressive W22-L9. Del Potro has the advantage in the head-to-head too, winning 5 and losing 1. Del Potro won their own previous meeting on clay at the French Open in 2009 which went four sets.

There is usually one close set between these two rivals - and we only need a tie-breaker to bring home the bacon on this bet. If there is to be an easy winner, you would fancy it to be Del Potro..but I think Tsona will have too much craft to be broken easily and if his serve is firing, the sets could be tight.

One 7-5 or 7-6 set is what we need and I can see that happening today.
