Almagro is the world number 14 and he is a Spanish expert clay court tennis player. One thing I like a lot in Almagro is that backhand Federer’s alike. That one hand backhand is, after the serve, the best tennis weapon in my opinion. But, most of all, it’s the best weapon on clay surfaces, in wich the serve is not that important. That kind of backhand can give a player the tools to attack a ball when you actually need to defend. And that’s the only way you can attack when you need to defense in a game. You only can do that with a one hand backhand. And this technique catch your opponent when he didn’t expect and attack but a defense move. This season for almagro is being very good. He has defeated great players like Berdych and Simon. In this last 2 weeks, I lost 7-5 7-6 to Ferrer and lost in 7-6 6-3 to Berdych. Both matches were played on clay.
Darcis is the current nº61 in the world. I am Portuguese, by the way, and in his last 2 tournaments he played against two Portuguese guys: Frederico Gil and Gastao Elias. Well… I’ve seen this 2 players for many many years and I have to tell that they are not that good. Weak serves, lack of consistency… And even against them, Darcis need 3 sets and 1 tie break in each of this two matches against this Portuguese fellows. Yesterday, once again, he defeat Fognini in 7-5 7-6. So, it’s pretty obvious that he is not a good service game breaker. And against Almagro’s strength and consistency, and do not very chances to Darcis. The H2H is 3-0 for Almagro and the only game on clay was won by 6-3 6-0 7-6, so not that hard.
