A typical highly competitive renewal of the valuable Temple Stakes at Haydock with some of Europe's top spinters in action.
There are many horses with chances and I am going to concentrate on Bated Breath, Sole Power, Tangerine Trees, and Monsieur Joe.
Bated Breath was second in both the July Cup and the Sprint Cup here over C&D. On the latter occasion, he divided the best in europe, Dream Ahead, and the smart Hoof It. That form is undeniably good enough to win this race, although this is over the minimum trip and he's making his seasonal reappearance and needed the run last year.
I really like Tangerine Trees and wouldn't put off anyone backing him. H won last year#s Prix d'Abbaye last season where he had Sole Power just a neck further back. He has a 4lb penalty for that win so strictly at the weights, Sole Power has the advantage here.
Sole Power should be favourite. He has the beating of Tangerine Trees as stated above, and he won this race last year. The flat track and firm going really suit and he's a real speed merchant.
If you fancy Tangerine Trees and/or Sole Power then, purely on form lines, you have to fancy Monsier Joe. The latter has been kept busy in some top class sprints in Meydan and has been beaten less than a neck twice by Sole Power. You could rightly argue that Sole Power is proven iat the track and has the wins on his record - both true - but Monsier Joe is available at 11/1 whereas Sole Power is best priced 7/2. Which one is the value?
I think Monsier Joe each-way is a decent bet in what promises to be a bunched finish.
He's been running very solidly in Dubai this winter too and is sure to run well but at the odds Monsieur Joe represents a little value.
He's been beaten inches by Sole Power in two races at Meydan and is making phenomenal progress at the moment. He ran a fine race at Longchamp last time and makes plenty of each-way appeal.
Monsieur Joe is drawn on the right side of the track too with Sole Power and Bated Breath over with him and looks good value.
