The Yankees' Ivan Nova (9-2, 4.03 ERA) is set to square off against the Red Sox' Jon Lester (5-5, 4.53 ERA) on the mound this evening.

Nova struggled mightily in his last start, and I believe that it's a sign of things to come; the right-hander gave up a season-high six runs over six frames of work in his team's 7-4 setback to the Rays last Tuesday. Nova faced the Red Sox on April 20th, and gave up two runs over six frames for the victory.After yesterday's double header, I look for the Red Sox to come out with a bit more energy than its counterpart today.

Anyone that's followed me for any length of time knows that "recent performance" plays a part in my handicapping repertoire, and when looking at what each starter did in his last outing, there is no question that Lester has the advantage in this department.

But it's more than that, as Lester has in fact been lights out over the last month, and I fully expect this trend to carry over here.
