EThe Strikers are set to play their final home game of the regular season on Saturday. Conversely, the Atlanta Silverbacks will trek south to Lockhart Stadium for their last road game of the season.

Gaining momentum at the right time, the Strikers are winners of their last three matches and in the process have clinched a playoff spot. They are now vying for a chance to host a match at Lockhart for the first round of the playoffs.

Strikers head coach Daryl Shore said, “We now have a chance to host a home playoff game. That is our goal.”

The Silverbacks, on the other hand, have been mired at the bottom of the NASL standings for the majority of the season. They have played well at times but they have found ways of losing matches in the waning moments. Whether it’s a breakdown in concentration in Edmonton or having a penalty called against them at home in a match against the Strikers earlier in the season, the Silverbacks have indeed been their own worst enemy at times.

The Strikers should not overlook their opponent. The last time the Silverbacks were in Fort Lauderdale they secured all three points in a 3-2 victory over the home team.

“We have a big game against Atlanta,” said Shore. “Although they are in last place, they are not a last place team.”

Each team has four points in previous meetings between one another.

Matchup to watch
Should these four players participate in the match, Ciaran O’Brien and Lucas Paulini for the Silverbacks and Eduardo Coudet and Bryan Arguez for the Strikers, it will be interesting to see how the match unfolds in the midfield.

O’Brien plays a pivotal role in attack. He leads the team in assists with 5.

Coudet leads the team with six goals. Most of Coudet’s goals have come from set pieces.
