The Adelaide 36ers will play their second home game of the 2012/13 Australian NBL against Cairns Taipans on Saturday night Australian standard time. Both teams have had similar starts to the season winning at home in week 1 before suffering defeats in week 2.

Adelaide were very impressive in their opening home match, out playing the Melbourne Tigers to register a 23 point win. In their second start they were ultra competitive for three quarters against the reigning champion Breakers before getting out scored 27-12 in the last losing by 14 points. The sixers posses arguably the best one two centre combination in the league with Daniel Johnson (18ppg, 8rpg) and former NBA player Luke Schensher (3ppg, 9rpg). The inside advantage could give them the edge on the boards and will make Cairns task even harder, especially considering they will be coming off a tough match against Sydney the night before.

The Taipans started their season in solid fashion with a 12 point win over local rivals Townsville. They were bought back down to earth by the visiting Wollongong Hawks going down by 10 points at home. New Taipans recruit Cam Tragardh has been in great form averaging 20 points per game. He has received little support however with American import Jamar Wilson the only other player registering an average of 10ppg or higher.

With the exception of one quarter of play against the Breakers, Adelaide have played good basketball so far this season. They have performed well in their home opener and took it up to New Zealand for 3 quarters. Cairns on the other hand, won against Townsville, a team many believe will finish last in the league and were then humbled by the Hawks on their own home court. On top of the current form Cairns will be backing up from a match against Sydeny the night before which may be a factor towards the end of the game. I can see no other result other than a sixers win in this one and I'm tipping them to cover the spread.
