Monday Night Football is back for week 7 of the NFL with the red hot Chicago Bears battling it out with divisional rivals Detroit at Soldier Field.
Over the years a significant rivalry has developed between the Bears and the Lions, however it is the Bears who have enjoyed the better of their matches winning 7 of the last 8 played. The Bears (4-1) are in red hot form and are coming off 2 weeks rest to face a Lions team (2-3) who rebounded from a bad start to the season to register a win away to Philidlphia last week. Chicago are a very well rounded team with star Jay Cutler at quarterback, Running Back Matt Forte who is one of the leagues best combo backs and Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall who is averaging 100 yards receiving per game. Undoubtedly their biggest strength however is their 5 star defence which ranks number 1 against the run and 2nd overall. The Bears allow a league best 60 yards per game and this may be a problem for he Lions considering they are still without starter Javid Best.
The Lions will come to town to test out their 2nd ranked passing offence which boasts prolific quarterback/receiver combination Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson. Although they have only hooked up for 1 touchdown this season they were amoungst the leagues best last year. Stafford will need to be a little more careful than usual if he wishes to avoid adding to his 6 interceptions so far this season as he will face a Chicago secondary that leads the league in picks with 13. Though their passing game is strong Detroit major strength is their defensive line which includes 2 first round draft picks in Ndamakong Suh and Nick Farley. They terrorised Phillies QB Micheal Vick last week sacking him 7 times. Chicago's sometimes suspect O line will need to lift their game in order to get the most out of Cutler and Marshall and the strong Bears pass attack.
Chicago are approaching the game with a very specific plan. They will be looking to stop Detroits run completely making their attack very one dimensional. The Lions will face a tough task against the red hot Chicago defence and the margin for error will be very small. The current form along with Chicago's historical edge over Detroit should be enough for them to win and cover the spread in what should be a very entertaining MNF clash.
