This week in the NFL we will see struggling Cleveland host San Diego.

The home side weren't expected to do too much this season with their offence based around second year QB Gerrick Weedon and rookie Running Back Trent Richardson and so far the Browns have lived up to those expectations entering week 8 with a 1 win, 6 loss record. Cleveland sit on the bottom of the AFC North and they are coming off a 17-13 loss to fellow strugglers Indianapolis. To make matters worse for the Browns will be the fact that Richardson will miss the match due to a rib cartridge injury. He was their main source of offence and the Browns will be banking on second string Montario Hardesty stepping up to fill the void. It will indeed be a big void to fill as Richardson leads the team in rushing and receiving.

They will face a Chargers team who will be desperate to bounce back from a humiliating loss two weeks back to the visiting Denver Broncos. The Bolts led 24-0 at half time in that match before Denver stormed home scored 35 unanswered points to snatch victory. They have had a week off to think about the result and to plan on the upcoming game against the Browns. On paper the Chargers have a potent offence led by Phillip Rivers and complimented by Malcom Floyd, Ryan Mattews and future hall of fame tight end Antonio Gates. They will need to produce more however as the offence is currently ranked a lowly 25th in the league. What will give the Chargers the edge in this one is their league leading run defence which allows a poultry 71 yards per game.

In conclusion I see the Chargers as having the advantage. They are coming off a 2 week break, will be motivated to win after their embarrassing fade out in their last start and quite simply, they will have to win if they want to keep pace with Denver at he top of their division. San Diego is the better team on paper and Cleveland will sorely miss their leading offensive playmaker Richardson and their backup Hardesty will face the huge task of taking on the leagues best run defence. I really like the Chargers in this one and I'm picking they'll cover the spread.
