BIG NEWS
Richard Lee does very well with a small string of horses, and his recent Ludlow winner is fancied to cope with a step up in class at Exeter this afternoon. The 7-y-o shaped well on his chasing debut over an inadequate trip, and duly landed a wholesale gamble last time when trying three miles (travelled well but all out to get home by a short-head from the subsequent winner Storm Survivor). This more galloping course seems sure to suit and with Michael Nolan taking off a handy 5lb, he seems overpriced against his main dangers from bigger stables. Forecast favourite Abnaki will attract support after two seconds recently and hailing from the Jonjo/McCoy combination. However, he is a very poor jumper who has been ridden virtually from the off to dispute a slow pace on both these occasions, and is one to oppose with his questionable attitude and poor strike rate. Main danger may therefore come from De La Bech, who won twice over hurdles in the mud this term and is very much the type to make a better chaser (point winner in 2011). He made an encouraging debut in this sphere when chasing home Safran de Cotte at Chepstow last month, and is open to improvement under ideal conditions here. Velator had a year off before his recent reappearance and may need another run or two before peaking, while Alpancho will have to run to a decent level at the first time of asking over fences to feature.
