Manchester City host city rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium as Manuel Pellegrini and David Moyes get their first taste of the Manchester derby. A dominant second-half display saw Manchester City open their Champions League campaign with victory away at Viktoria Plzen in a 3-0 win. Equally important was the return to fitness of captain Vincent Kompany who has recovered from a thigh injury. His return can only add confidence to a defence who haven’t conceded in three successive matches.
Manchester United head into the Manchester derby in good form after two goals from striker Wayne Rooney helped David Moyes side to a 4-2 victory over Bayern Leverkusen on the opening round of fixtures in the Champions League. The derby match is one United cannot afford to lose having suffered a disappointing defeat at rivals Liverpool earlier this season. Nani is available for selection again having served a one-match suspension in midweek. Moyes is likely to stick with a conservative approach as looks to avoid defeat against opposition who will be challenging for the Premier League title.
A tight derby match with much at stake can lead to a low scoring match.
