Premier League Format
There are twenty teams that participate in the Premier League with each club playing against each other home and away equating to 38-matches per season.
Three points are awarded for a win and one point for a draw, with the teams being ranked first by total points, then on goal difference and finally goals scored. At the end of the season the bottom three clubs in the Premier League table face relegation, while the top two placed teams in the Championship, together with the winner of the play-off final get promoted.
At the other end of the Premier League standings, the top three clubs progress through to the main draw of the UEFA Champions League, while the fourth placed team goes into a two-leg play-off against other European clubs with the winner advancing through to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
