Tour de France 2011 Winner and Defending Champion
Last year, Cadel Evans
had finally conquered the mount Everest of the cycling world. Chasing the title
for two decades, winning the TOUR has never been sweeter for Evans. Seeing
Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador come and go as they dominate the sports
and with years passing by with new younger contenders to compete with, it seems
it is a far fetch that he will win the title.
Over the years, the Aussie was a maid of honor, twice finished second in 2007 and 2008 but with sheer determination and belief in himself that one day it will be him on the top podium in Champ-Elysees , that day came when Cadel Evans finally won the 2011 Tour de France.
He started the race not as a favourite to win but along the way, he has shown the grit that he has what it takes to beat the preferred winners by the bookmakers. Trailing with a 57sec gap against Andy Schleck , he pedaled his way to win by 1 min 34sec behind and making a history for himself as the first Australian and the oldest winner of Tour de France since World War II.
Without Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck in the race, Bradley Wiggins top this year's Top 10 Favorite to win Tour de France's yellow jersey in Champs-Elysees.
