New York Jets vs. Giants

An AFC wildcard is the New York Jet's focus but New York Giants might have something else in mind as both clubs compete for playoff spots. The Jets host the Giants on Saturday while the Denver Broncos travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills. Monday Night will see the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons go head to head.

New York Jets vs. New York Giants

What on earth happened last weekend when the New York Jets took on the field against the Philadelphia Eagles, well a 45-19 defeat wasn’t a good calling for Rex Ryan’s men. The Eagles managed to stay in the playoff chase and even with the ugly defeat, the Jets are still within a chance to get the wild card. The Jets were humbled with Mark Sanchez getting sacked four times while also throwing two interceptions. This week they face arch rivals, the Giants and to preserve that wild card spot with the overall record of 8-6, only Cincinnati and Denver could make things worse for the Jets if they lose. Defensively, the Jets had an off day and a repeat of this at the MetLife Stadium could end their season, something that Rex Ryan can’t afford after a inconsistent regular season.

The Giants fell short in a disappointing loss to the Washington Redskins 23-10 last weekend and in doing so, putting their playoff chances at risk. They must now win their last two games to make the post-season. If they can do so, they will claim the NFC East title. They showed little desire against the Redskins, especially Eli Manning not being at his best. Not only would a win over the Jets giving them bragging rights in New York, but would make the final week home match against Dallas, a mini-playoff. If they want to impress then getting the defense back on track would be the key as woeful they were last weekend. Both DE Osi Umenyiora and David Baas are doubtful this Saturday.

Verdict: Both team had a torrid time last weekend, it is a case which teams have the worse defense but the Jets have something to play for and only a win will help them secure that playoff wildcard.

Obscure Stats - The Giants have covered the line in just 6 of their last 21 games following a loss, while Jets games have gone Over in 35 of their last 51 games following a game in which they gave up over 350 yards in total.

Buffalo Bills vs. Denver Broncos

The season was well and truly over since Week 12 when the Bills were experiencing consecutive defeats which ran up to four. Come Week 16, which has increased to 7 straight defeats and with a 5-9 overall record, the Buffalo Bills are regrouping themselves for next season. They play their last home game of the regular season against the Denver Broncos which an eight or nine defeat could come in their last two games. They lost to the Miami Dolphins 30-23 at home last weekend and only wide receiver Steve Johnson looks to be in the right attitude for the team.

The Broncos are in pole position for the AFC West title but there is still work to be done in order to get into the playoffs. Things could have been better off if they were able to beat the New England Patriots but they faltered with a 41-23 defeat. What unraveling is that the Broncos finally lost after going six straight wins and this time Tim Tebrow ended up on the losing team. It might not be all him making the mistakes but the rushing didn’t help much in the latter quarters, that is something that needs to change as they travel to Buffalo looking for a win. The Broncos really need to put the loss to the Patriots away and find their winning form again.

Verdict: Tim Tebow will come back strong after seeing off by Tom Brady but the Broncos aren’t going to fall at the final hurdle. Broncos to put the Bills away easily.

Obscure Stats - Denver have covered the line in just 8 of their last 31 games against clubs with a win/loss record below 50%, while Buffalo have covered the line in just 9 of their last 34 home games against clubs with an away win/loss record above 50%.

New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons

Monday Night football and it’s Boxing Day which means one club will get presents on the day. For the home team, the New Orleans Saints have already clinched a playoff berth but still hold onto hope of clinching the number 2 spot in the conference. They're coming off a road thumping of the Minnesota Vikings last which, a game in which QB Drew Brees threw for 412 yards and 5 touchdowns withouth throwing a single interception. The Saints opponents, Atlanta Falcons are also coming off a big win. With incentive to perform, they look likely to compete for a place in the playoffs, with a wildcard spot looking to be safe even if they were to lose this one. They ransacked the Jacksonville Jaguars 41-14 at home last week and in their last road trip in the regular season, they face a strong home Saints team. Running back Michael Turner and wide receiver Roddy White have being doing the business in the last few months and their reward could unfold in the playoffs rather than against the Saints this week.

Verdict: The Saints goes marching on and with six straight wins, their two home matches starting against the Falcon should be a comfortable one. The Saints to win the first of the two home games.

Obscure Stats - Atlanta games have gone Under in 23 of their last 31 games following a game in which they gave up less than 250 yards total, while the Saints have covered the line in 19 of their last 27 games against clubs with a win/loss record above 50%.
