Wimbledon 2010 Betting Odds

Wimbledon 2009 The tournament has been held at the All England Club in the London since 1877, It's the oldest and the most respected tennis tournament. So it's naturally also the oldest Grand Slam tournament and the only one which is still played on grass. This Wimbledon tournament is more than tennis: the audience are eating strawberries and cream, formal dress code for players and ball boys and girls, royal members are represent. We hope you will find this Wimbledon wiki as a useful Wimbledon 2009 preview.

Pete Sampras has taken here 7 titles and Bjoern Borg and Roger Federer 5 each. Martina Navratilova won 9 titles in singles and 7 in doubles and 4 in mix. The 2008 gentleman's final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal is still the longest (nearly five hours of play) and it took almost seven hours due to rain before the winner was resolved (Nadal).

The 2009 Wimbledon

The tournament starts on Monday 20 June. It's scheduled for fourteen days. There is no play on the 'Middle Sunday', because of the insistence of England Church. There are five main events: Gentleman's Singles, Ladies Singles, Gentleman's Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Juniors have their own events: Boy's Singles, Boy's Doubles, Girl's Singles and Girl's Doubles.

Additionally there are also Invitational Events: Gentleman's Invitation Doubles, Senior Gentleman's Invitation Doubles, Ladies Invitation Doubles and Gentleman's Wheelchair Doubles. A total of 128 players shall be playing in each single event, 64 pairs in each doubles event and 48 pairs in mixed doubles. 32 male and female players are seeded in singles and 16 teams are seeded in doubles. The prize money in 2008 was £750,000 in gentleman's and ladies single championship and the double winners were given £229,000.

Due to the possibility of rain or extremely hot weather during Wimbledon, a retractable roof has been planned for the court and has now been completed: The retractable roof ban be closed/opened in under 10 minutes. The court has a capacity of 15,000. There is also the Royal Box, from which members of the Royal Family watch matches. Centre Court usually hosts the finals and semifinals of the main events and also top-seeded players play there in the earlier rounds.

The hard court season is not over yet and then comes clay season. So it's very difficult to make deep analysis about players. But I would like to give some thoughts about players who has succeeded on grass in a past or who are black horses on this year's tournament. We hope the following info will be useful for your Wimbledon tips.

Wimbledon 2009 Betting

Wimbledon Betting Guide: MEN

1. Rafael Nadal (#1) is 22 years old very talent all-courter. His best surface is still clay, but he has showed his capability to play also on other surfaces. His career record on grass is 31-7. In Wimbledon he has an amazing 22-3 record including the runner-up in '07 and the championship last season. Last season he played 12-0 on grass taking also the title in London just before the Wimbledon! He lost only 4 sets on those 12 matches! Rafa's main weapons are fast movement, left-handed and mental and physical power. Without any injuries he'll play on the final also on this year (or Murray).

2. Roger Federer (#2) is IMO still the best player in the universe although he has not succeeded lately like one has expected. His grass record is 81-12 including the 5 Wimbledon titles in a row between '04 -'07. Last season Roger lost to Nadal in final after five sets, two tiebreaks and last set 7-9. His success based to his wide selections of strikes, strong groundstrokes from both wings, very hard readable serve, heavily kicked second serve and amazing smooth movement on court. He is also very tough in mentally like all TOP-players. He is my 1st choice to take the title again here!

3. Novak Djokovic (#3) has been two years one pf the top players. Last season he won AUS Open title and has won 12 ATP titles on his career. His record on grass is 21-8. Mole was on the semis here in '07, but last season dropped out loosing to Safin. This season has not started as expected, but he will improve! But grass is not his but surface and I can't see him on the final.

4. Andy Murray (#4) is the new hope of England. The Scott is very talent hard surfaces player. Last season he took 5 ATP-titles and this season has also started well with record 15-2 including two titles. Besides Andy has beaten tough ones like Roddick, Nadal and Federer. Unfortunately he has suffered from few injuries. His career grass record is 24-9 and the best achievement was last season€s Final. He has all weapons to be at least on Quarterfinals and maybe he is ready to be on the final!

There are also a few players who can be quite higher like Hewitt, Gasquet, Ancic, Cilic and Karlovic. Also oldies Safin, Clement and Schuettler can make surprises! Anyway IMO Federer will take the championship again and his opponent in the final will be Nadal or Murray! Wimbledon 2009 Betting Guide

Wimbledon Betting Guide: WOMEN

1. Serena Williams (#1) won the title here two years in a row ('02 - '03) and was the runner-up in '05. Amazingly he was the runner-up again in last season loosing to his sister! Last season Serena took the title in US Open. This season has started extremely well: semis in Doha (Dementieva), the title in AUS Open and the semis in Dubai (Venus) a few weeks ago. Serena will be once again very tough player here and perhaps will be the favourite of bookies!

2. Venus Williams (#2) has won the championship here five times and now chase third title in a row! Since 2005 her record is 25-1 (lost to Jankovic '06) ! She has played on this season 11-1 including the title in Doha a few weeks ago. Venus will also be one of the favourites here, but somehow Serena is higher in my ranking just now!

3. Elena Dementia (#4) has started her season very well with record 22-3 including the titles in Auckland and Sydney, the semis in AUS Open (Serena) and the runner-up in Paris (Mauresmo). Last week she lost to Venus in Quarterfinals in Doha.Last season he was on the semis here which is her highest placement. I think on this season she will drop out before the Quarterfinals depending of course from the draw!

4. Maria Sharapova (#23) has been aside since 31 week last season! Maria has suffered from shoulder injury and will be back on court very soon! The most beautiful female player won the title here in '04 and has been twice in the semis. Maria is real fighter and I'm sure this tournament will be one of his main targets on this season! At least she will be on the Quarterfinals and perhaps will challenge Williams sisters seriously.

Jankovic (3 times 4th round), Vaidisova ( 2 times Quarterfinals) and Bartoli (the runner-up '07) are also players who can be quite high here! Anyway the situation in women's side is much more open! Williams sisters are favourites, but I think Sharapova will challenge them if she will totally rebound!

Good luck you all and let's meet again before Wimbledon. Make sure to check back for good 2009 Wimbledon picks!
