Betsafe was launched in 2006 and it is now part of the Swedish-owned Betsson AB group of companies. During its 11 year history, Betsafe has been slowly but surely growing in stature and whilst it isn’t seated at the top table with the likes of Bet365 and Betfair just yet, it’s clearly evident that Betsafe is on an upward path.
The commercial partnership with Manchester City Football Club has proven to be a key stepping-stone for Betsafe. It has helped considerably to raise the profile of the company in the UK, which is one of the most lucrative sports betting markets in the world. Not only that, Betsafe football partners also include Bundesliga side FC Koln and together with Manchester City regularly playing in the UEFA Champions League, Betsafe is becoming more of a force throughout mainland Europe as well.
Still, strategic partnerships are all very good but you want to know if this sportsbook is worth joining. The key questions such as is Betsafe safe and honest? What sports, betting markets & other features does it offer? And, what are the bonuses and Betsafe promo offers like? All these need to be answered and this is what our in-depth Betsafe review intends to find out.
If an online bookmaker wishes to join the established elite among the industry then its needs a product capable of matching the heavyweights. The Betsafe sportsbook is home to 35 different sporting and non-sporting betting categories so it holds its own in terms of variety.
Football is given special attention. Betsafe has all the major leagues from Europe and South America fully covered. You’ll also find the lesser known leagues from countries such as Tunisia, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Naturally, Betsafe football betting covers all the Scandinavian leagues in details, too.
For bettors who like to have a dabble in the American arena, there’s quite a nice selection including the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and MMA for you to get your teeth into. Then, you have all the other mainstream sports: cricket, rugby, Aussie rules, boxing, tennis and so on. Aside from the A-Z sporting line-up, you can bet by event with current listings including the French Open tennis, World Cup, F.A. Cup and Champions League football to name but a few.
However, something we find a little perplexing is Betsafe horse racing, or to be more precise, the lack of it. For a company attempting to penetrate the UK market, it seems strange to overlook the sport of kings. We can only assume the theory behind this is to focus more on football which could be a very clever tactic in the long term. Therefore, quite obviously, if you’re looking for a sportsbook for action over the fences, Betsafe is not for you.
Another key feature which all top online sportsbooks simply have to offer is in-play betting. Betsafe delivers live betting on a variety of sports and events to satisfy the growing demand for this popular, new method of betting. We must say though, that although the service is good, in that it is fast and easy to use and the suspended game time is minimal, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that you’ll find on the Bet365 and Betfair in-play services.
Betsafe live streaming is now a part of the package which certainly gives the sportsbook a more complete feel. Football from some of Europe’s and South America’s top leagues can be streamed direct to your desktop or mobile device. There’s also basketball, notably the NBA, tennis including the majors, volleyball and a series of other events to pick from.
An area which needs improvement is Betsafe cashout. Its policy states that ‘Betsafe cashout may be available on selected pre-match and in-play sports.’ Also, there are no guarantees that your Betsafe cashout will be accepted. The Company’s rules are that it may reject your request even in a game containing the option to cashout. This is a very grey area which needs to be fixed.
Bettors today demand choice and that is where markets and market depth comes in. A market is defined as a particular bet within a sport. For example: first goal scorer in football and win the first set in tennis are both betting markets.
In this area bettingexpert rates Betsafe as above average. Again, it comes up short against the industry’s big boys but it would be unfair to say that there isn’t a wide array of markets as there are enough to please most bettors’ needs.
It should be noted that market variety is based on demand. The bigger the event or match, the more markets there are to choose from.
Betsafe Football Markets
For a big game such as the north London Derby, Betsafe football does not disappoint for its depth of markets. There are more than 70 different betting opportunities on display. These range from the usual band of match result, handicap, total goals and first goal scorer to betting on the number of corners, the number of yellow cards and result plus number of goals.
We have noticed over the years and through the many Betsafe reviews we’ve done, that the market depth is become greater and greater. It is also has more matches with deep markets available. Betsafe appears to be taking a slow and steady approach and is is building extra Betsafe football betting markets piece by piece as it evolves.
Betsafe should be commended on its non-nonsense, up front approach when it comes to betting. This is a quote from the Betsafe promo page
“Here's a head start. Are you up for a challenge? Odds are you don't have what it takes to beat us in the long run. And we're feeling lucky, do you?” Betsafe promo team
In terms of current promotions, you wil not find a welcome bonus on Betsafe's website any more, which is quite disappointing and we hope that will be changed soon. A tab worth a click is the ‘Betsafe Boosts’ which can be found in the sports sub menu - this contains price boosts on certain games/matches usually Betsafe football which can be quite tempting.
With no Betsafe horse racing to promote, it does appear as though the competition has an advantage in this area.
In a nutshell, is Betsafe the best online sportsbook? The answer is ‘No, silly, there is no such thing!’ However; is Betsafe a bookmaker worth joining? Then, we would say ‘Yes!’
Let’s remember, this is a sportsbook which is still in its infancy. Whilst it was established 11 years ago, it wasn’t until the Betsson Group purchased it in 2011 that it started to make an impression outside of the Nordic countries.
So, no it’s not perfect (at the moment), having no Betsafe horse racing is testament to that. There are areas where it needs to improve - the can I, can’t I cashout? for example needs to be clarified. The whole no welcome bonus thing is quite confusing and we do hope that will soon change. Maybe they are trying to go for some different approach to their new customers, which would be nice, let's wait and see.
But, as we alluded to, bettingexpert has witnessed the steady growth of Betsafe and month by month, year by year, it is adding features and making improvements which ultimately will serve to offer the customer a much more rounded product.
