Wednesday at Royal Ascot 2023 provides a challenging test for punters, with maximum field sizes and competitive action at the top level throughout the afternoon, with good fast ground again prevailing after plenty of watering in the lead up.
The Royal Hunt Cup at 5.00pm is always a difficult handicap to solve (and one of the big betting races of the day), and punters are advised to shop around for layers offering enhanced place terms on the day (often offering down to 6,7 or 8 places for each-way betting).
The Group 2 Queen Mary gets things underway and is sure to be an ultra competitive sprint for juveniles over the over five furlong trip, with American trainer Wesley Ward sure to have an explosive filly primed for the day (Bunchen currently a 12/1 chance). The highlight of the day is the Group 1 Prince of Wales Stakes at 4.20pm over 1m2f, and this always attracts a top class field chasing one of the biggest prizes of the entire week.
Elsewhere there are supporting cards at Hamilton, Newcastle and Ripon, while NH fans have the cards at Wexford and Worcester to get stuck into.

William Haggas’s high class colt has won 3 of his 7 career starts so far, and should be a lot sharper for a promising seasonal reappearance in the Lockinge at Newbury (just outpaced when the pace lifted over the mile trip). He will relish the step back up to 1m2f under regular rider Tom Marquand, and has two cracking efforts at this track in the book from last season (including when third in the St James Palace at the Royal meeting when forced to race wide throughout).
Odds: NA

Jane Chapple-Hyam does really well with her relatively small team of horses, and her 8-y-o has become really well handicapped after a couple of quiet runs so far this season (negatively ridden twice from rear and building up to peak fitness from a falling mark). He ran a screamer when second at 40/1 in the 2022 renewal of this race, finding only the gambled-on Dark Shift too strong, and has James Doyle back in the saddle again this afternoon for the first time since that effort.
Odds: NA
