Donna Vekic and Peyton Stearns will face off in the third round of the US Open on Friday in New York and the Olympic Silver Medallist will be slightly favored to advance.
With a mere -135 being posted on Vekic to progress, the door is open for the American to take advantage of the crowd and pull off the upset.
Vekic has been pushed to earn two victories in New York this week in Section 7 of the Main Draw against Greejt Minnen and Kim Birrell.
The American upset the 12-seed in the second round to earn her spot in the third round and EJ Garr’s Donna Vekic vs Peyton Stearns prediction has expectations on a three-set affair with juicy odds of +142 which you can find below.

The line of Vekic to win this match at only -135 has to be surprising to many bettors who will likely jump on the Olympic Silver Medallist at that price. Those odds don’t exactly scream that Vekic will not roll over Stearns and Peyton is listed at even money to win this match at a handful of bookmakers which shows respect for the American. BetMGM here in New York is listing Peyton Stearns at -225 to win any set in this match. That price will never hit my board but the line is the story behind how and why we might be going the distance.
The big question will be if Stearns can pull off the upset with the New York crowd in support which will come in handy if Peyton has a good start to the match. The audience will get behind Peyton but Donna Vekic will be comfortable with crowd noise.
As much as I love to support the Americans in New York, Donna Vekic will be fine with Peyton Stearns today en route to the fourth-round win in Section 7. The +177 offer on the 2 – 0 sets prop is about as lovely as it gets but Pinnacle has +193 on the -1.5 sets handicap with more value behind it.
Keep that in mind if you need some extreme value but the -1.5 games at -105 is still my main play for the Vekic vs Stearns match expecting the Croatian will advance past the American in New York.
The 24th-ranked player on the WTA tour was tested against 70th-ranked Greet Minnen in the first set as she was down 4 – 3 and 5 – 4 before taking the opening frame.
Vekic broke Minnen four times and wasn’t broken once in the straight-sets win while blasting 7 aces in the victory.
Donna will produce a third straight campaign without a losing record on any surface in 2024. The Croatian is 11 – 8 on hardcourts with a 29 – 17 record this season.
Peyton Stearns is 11 – 12 on hardcourts in 2024 and the American entered New York ranked 47th on the WTA Tour.
Stearns got past Tsurenko in the first round, 6 – 1, 7 – 5, and pulled off the upset over 12-seed Daria Kasatkina, 6 – 1, 7 – 6 in Round 2.
This will be the first meeting between Donna Vekic and Peyton Stearns on any surface.
