Austria will make their third tournament in a row at Euro 2024. They have a very interesting and balanced team, which has the potential for success. They don’t have big football names like many others do but play with resolve and precision. Led by the experienced Ralf Rangnick, they have the potential to be the surprise team of the tournament.

Austria has only recently started to make waves on the football scene. They have more participation at the World Cup than at the Euros, but this might just be their time to shine.

Austria is on a tear entering the tournament, they have won six games in a row. They defeated Azerbaijan (1:0) and Estonia (2:0) to end the qualifiers, and then won four friendlies to get themselves ready for the tournament. Most recently, they defeated Serbia, another Euro 2024 team, bu 2:1.
In the absence of David Alaba, other players will have to step forth. Luckily, Das Team doesn’t have a shortage of quality players at their disposal.
Probably their most known and most experienced player is Marko Arnautović. The Inter Milan forward has scored the most goals for this Austrian team and even at the age of 35 will be their greatest attacking threat.
Alongside him will be Bayern Munich’s midfielder Konrad Laimer. He has evolved as a player after transferring to the Munich giant and is set to lead his team at the Euros as well.
Austra’s schedule sees them start the tournament against France in Group D, probably the toughest opponent in their group.
Even though David Alaba is not playing, he has announced that he will be with the team during the entirety of the tournament. He is the first-choice team captain, so he feels that he has an obligation to with the team to stick beside them. He will join Das Team at the start of the preparation and travel to each game with them.
Ralf Rangnick is known as a very meticulous coach. Every team he has coached so far has been able to produce exceptionally well thanks to the level of preparation and precision he has made to every game. For that reason, Austria was able to perform the way they had and enter the tournament as one of the most in-form teams in Europe.
Austria employs a 4-2-3-1 formation. Arnautović plays the target man in front of the attacking trio, which will now need to operate without Alaba. Both Sabitzer and Laimer have the ability to switch from midfield to the attack. So it will be interesting to see if Rangnick is going to switch them constantly or he will give them the role of controlling the midfield.
Compared to other nations at the Euros, Austira has never made a significant mark. They made it out of the group stage only once, which just so happened at the previous Eur 2020.
This will be Austria’s fourth participation at the European Championships. They made their debut in 2008 and since then only missed Euro 2012. However, as far as World Cups go, they have failed to qualify for the last six tournaments. The last time they played was at the World Cup in France in 1998 and they have participated a total of seven times.
Overall, Austria has had more success in the World Cup competition. But lately, the tables have turned and they seem to be doing much better at the Euros.
