Safer Gambling Week 2024 is here but what is it? In this article, we will answer that and many more questions to hopefully share as much information as possible on this vital yearly event. Launched in the UK and Ireland, Safer Gambling Week has gone global and we will be across it all week with coverage from all angles.
Launched in 2018, Safer Gambling Week is organised in the UK by the Betting and Gaming Council, Bacta, the Lotteries Council and the Bingo Association.
The aim is to highlight the industry-wide safeguards put in place to help players and to start a conversation about safer gambling practices.
Safer Gambling Week 2024 runs between Monday, November 18th and Sunday, November 24th. During those days, expect an increased focus on responsible gambling messaging, tools and resources across the industry.
The industry has a responsibility to the safety of its players. Bookmakers need to put safeguards in place to identify and help at-risk players. This can be done in a multitude of ways such as limiting stakes, time and deposit amounts.
But it’s also important that players educate themselves. As we’ve often said on bettingexpert, an educated bettor is a safer bettor.
Arming yourself with better information on safer gambling practices can help you identify problem behaviours in yourself and see them in others.
We’ve increased our safer gambling messaging across bettingexpert.com. Every article published on the bettingexpert Expert Insights section has a safer gambling message. Safer Gambling is important for the other 51 weeks of the year.
We’ve got plenty of information across bettingexpert but there are many fantastic resources elsewhere. We’ve dug into a few of them here.
The Safer Gambling Week website recommends the following for UK players: The National Gambling Treatment Service
GamCare
Northern Ireland National Helpline
Support for Young People
