There are 4 meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with good quality action over sticks at Ludlow sure to have some really competitive contests judged by the early declarations. The emphasis is always very much on speed at this sharp right-handed track, even with the recent rain easing conditions, and course specialists often come back again and again to show their best form at this venue. All-weather fans have the cards at Dundalk, Kempton and Southwell to get stuck into, with low grade handicaps very much the order of the day.
In this article:
Cotton End
Ludlow 2:00 (UK time)
Sheila Lewis does well with a small team of horses from her Sussex base, and her winning hurdler is fancied to get off the mark over fences at the second attempt at Ludlow on Friday. She was a model of consistency over timber back in 2021, with one impressive win at this sharp venue, and should have benefited from a considerate introduction in a warm novice chase at Huntingdon in December (schooled round in remote third).
Odds: NA
Ree Okka
Ludlow, 3:00 (UK time)
Harry Fry’s dual winning hurdler has failed to live up to market expectations in two runs over fences so far this winter (inadequate trips), but he has shaped well in relatively strong company at Aintree and Exeter (and a more positive ride is on the cards now upped to 3m1f). He has plenty of scope to do better in this sphere as his jumping slickens with more racing experience, and he can improve past some more exposed rivals under Sean Bowen (in a very modest looking class 3 handicap).
Odds: NA
