There are 5 meetings in Britain and Ireland on Saturday, with the start of the two day Tingle Creek meeting very much the highlight from Sandown. Clerk of the Course Andrew Copper will be hoping for some rain after a largely dry week in Esher, with the ground conditions good at the moment and the declarations worrying small in size for a meeting of this prestige. Elsewhere there is interesting jumps action from Exeter and Sedgefield, while AW fans have Dundalk and Newcastle to get stuck into.

Donald McCain would not be the most frequent visitor down south to the top tracks, and it looks significant that he has brought down this strapping novice to step up in class at Sandown on Friday. He comes into this unbeaten after winning his point, two bumpers and two novice hurdles at Carlisle and Bangor this winter. A positive ride from the front will be required by Hughes, with stamina for further than this 2m4f trip already established, and he could prove very hard to pass up the hill if able to dominate at his own pace.

He has only won 2 of his 16 career starts over fences, often spoiling his chance with a jumping error or two, but has always gone best on decent good ground and this does represent quite a big drop in class under the talented amateur James Turner.
