There are six scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on a very busy Monday, with flat fans in for an informative afternoon and evening. They have Pontefract and Windsor to study on drying ground, with some decent handicaps to try to solve at the Berkshire venue (and the top Newmarket yards sure to be well represented). Jumping fans have competitive action to study at Ffos Las, Hexham, Kempton and Tramore with the emphasis very much on stamina at the stiffest track in the land and the handicaps looking especially competitive for the time of year.

Forceful Speed
Pontefract 2.52 (UK time)
George Boughey has his team in excellent form as usual, and his progressive handicapper thrived last season after undergoing a gelding operation. He has now won 5 of his 12 career starts, including over this course and distance last June on quick ground, and the booking of the excellent Billy Loughnane increases confidence that he will be primed after 195 days on the sidelines (plenty of form with cut in the ground).
Odds: 4.50

Pontefract 2.22 (UK time)
Race-fitness can count for plenty at this early stage of the turf season, and Craig Lidster’s unexposed handicapper shaped nicely on her reappearance at Southwell on the all-weather (running on strongly late from off the pace having been sent off an unfancied 40/1 chance). The stiff uphill finish at Pontefract should suit ideally under Sam James, and she remains open to plenty of improvement after just six career starts (mostly in pursuit of a mark/inexperienced last season).
Odds: 7.00
