Today’s Racing Tips – October 15th

The curtain comes down on the flat season at Ascot on Saturday, and the ITV cameras are there to cover every race in full. There are top class runners from all over the world declared, and the Group race action begins at 1.25pm with the best of the stayers lining up for the Long Distance Cup. Undoubtedly the final appearance of William Haggas’s unbeaten superstar Baeed will be where most of the attention focuses, and he is likely to be a long odds on favourite against inferior rivals in the Champion Stakes at 4.00pm.

In this artice:

Today’s Daily Nap

Creative Force

Ascot 2:00 (UK time)

Charlie Appleby’s sprinter shaped a lot better than the bare result in the July Cup at Newmarket last time out behind Alcohol Free, and his freshness at this late stage of the season should count for plenty under champion jockey-elect William Buick. He posted a cracking effort at the Royal meeting here in June over this course and distance when just touched off by Naval Crown, and has plenty of soft ground form in the book if the rain does arrive to ease things dramatically.

Odds: NA

Today’s Value Angle

The Revenant

Ascot 3:20 (UK time)

This prolific French raider has won 12 of his 21 career starts, and comes into the back of this valuable Group 1 prize after two creditable efforts in defeat at Longchamp. The first time booking of Ryan Moore certainly increases confidence, and he showed that this course and distance suits when winning the 2020 renewal (and ran well behind Baeed in 2021).

Odds: NA

Odds are best odds available as at 9am October 15th 2022. Odds may now differ.

1:25AscotTrueshanAlan King’s top class 6-y-o stayer has missed a few engagements this summer with the ground conditions judged to be too fast, but he will have optimum conditions at Ascot on Saturday and should have too much speed for these rivals if dropping the bridle in the early stages under Hollie Doyle.

2:40AscotEmily UpjohnJohn and Thady Gosden’s filly was miles below par when last seen out in Group 1 company 84 days ago (pulled hard under restraint and weakened turning for home). However, she has been given plenty of time to recover since and her Epsom Oaks second to Tuesday remains the best piece of form here if she can get back on track under Frankie Dettori.

4:00AscotBaeedWilliam Haggas’s superstar has now won all ten of his career starts, and swerved the Arc de Triomphe in bad ground to go out on a high at this meeting. He is a strong traveller with a smart turn of foot, and is simply in a different league to these inferior rivals if everything goes to plan.
4:40AscotAstro KingSir Michael Stoute’s frustrating handicapper has proved expensive to follow in just three runs this season, but he has eased down the weights as a result and is now very well treated on the best of his form over the last few years in top heritage handicaps. Encouragingly he posted a career best effort over this course and distance in the Royal Hunt Cup back in June 2021, and will relish the expected ground conditions expected here under Ryan Moore.
