Saturday’s Horse Racing Tips: Ayr, Newbury September 17th

Today’s Racing Tips – September 17th
There are 9 races covered on ITV on Saturday, with the final day of the Ayr Gold Cup meeting very much the highlight. The big betting race is sure to be the Gold Cup at 3.40pm, with a maximum field of sprinters chasing the excellent prize money on offer. Earlier, the Silver Cup at 2.30pm will provide an excellent guide to any draw bias over the same course and distance, while the Group 3 for fillies at 3.05pm is sure to attract up the top stables from the south. Newbury also provide some top class action, with the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at 2.50pm providing a chance to compare some of the top juvenile form lines from over the last few months.
In this artice:
Today’s Daily Nap
Chil Chil
Newbury 2:15 (UK time)
Andrew Balding’s sprinter has been hard to place from a high mark all season, but she caught the eye last time when fifth at Haydock (just unable to sustain her run from rear over 6f), and this drop back to a strongly run 5f should suit ideally with David Probert replacing Hayley Turner.
Odds: NA
Today’s Value Angle
Stay Well
Newbury 3:25(UK time)
Hughie Morrison’s handicapper had excuses for a lesser effort last time out (very firm ground and had disappointed previously at Ascot), and his previous two runner-up efforts strongly suggested he would be winning a decent handicap this summer.
Odds: NA
Odds are best odds available as at 9am September 17th 2022. Odds may now differ.
ITV Racing Tips – Saturday September 17th
Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:20 | Ayr | Persuasion | David Barron’s handicapper disappointed under a negative ride when only ninth at Thirsk last time out, but he had shaped well in defeat at Pontefract and Doncaster before that and has optimum conditions at Ayr on Saturday. |
1:40 | Newbury | Dubai Future | Saeed bin Surror’s filly had enjoyed a terrific summer until a shade disappointing in a small field last time out, and is worth chancing to bounce back to her best form on drying ground at Newbury (impressive listed race winner at Royal Ascot on June). |
1:55 | Ayr | Phantom Flight | Horton’s progressive performer has been a terrific advert for this small yard all summer, and he really impressed with his strength at the finish when winning a competitive York handicap by an extending five lengths in August. |
2:15 | Newbury | Chil Chil | Andrew Balding’s sprinter has been hard to place from a high mark all season, but she caught the eye last time when fifth at Haydock (just unable to sustain her run from rear over 6f), and this drop back to a strongly run 5f should suit ideally with David Probert replacing Hayley Turner. |
2:30 | Ayr | Abolish | Iain Jardine’s handicapper stopped the rot from a sliding mark last time at Haydock, and could just be coming back to the boil after a disappointing season (now very well handicapped on the best of his previous form in France). |
2:50 | Newbury | Charyn | Roger Varian’s juvenile was a rare first time out winner for the yard at Haydock in August, and lost no caste at all under a penalty when narrowly denied at Newmarket last time out. |
3:05 | Ayr | Barefoot Angel | Richard Fahey’s filly created a deep impression when winning from a poor position on just her second career start last time out at Carlisle, and might just be underestimated by the market now stepping up markedly in class to Group 3 company. |
3:25 | Newbury | Stay Well | Hughie Morrison’s handicapper had excuses for a lesser effort last time out (very firm ground and had disappointed previously at Ascot), and his previous two runner-up efforts strongly suggested he would be winning a decent handicap this summer. |
3:40 | Ayr | Bielsa | Kevin Stott has enjoyed a fantastic summer and is particularly good in these big field sprints, so his booking for Kevin Ryan’s sprinter looks a significant one for the race he won in 2021 (did remarkably well to after fly jumping leaving the stalls). |
