Today’s Racing Tips – September 3rd

There are 9 races on ITV on Saturday, with the cameras bringing the best of the action from Ascot, Haydock and on the all-weather at Kempton. The quality action comes mainly from the Lancashire venue, with the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup at 3.30pm very much the highlight of the afternoon. Some top class sprinters have landed this prestigious prize over the years, and the 2022 renewal promises to be a high class affair with plenty of the fastest horses in the UK entered up at the declaration stage.

There are also some cracking top level handicaps across the three cards, with the Old Borough Cup at 2.55pm sure to be a big betting race, and the Lavazza handicap at 3.45pm over 1m4f certain to attract some rapidly improving 3-y-o’s from the top stables.

Today’s Daily Nap

Reach for the Moon

Haydock 1:45 (UK time)

John and Thady Gosden’s high class 3-y-o was a very expensive failure when turned over at 2/5f at Ascot in June, but he is well worth another chance here to confirm the excellent impression he created on his seasonal debut in the Heron Stakes at Sandown in May. He comes into this prize freshened up after two months off the track, and can have too much speed for these rivals under Frankie Dettori.

Odds: NA

Today’s Value Angle

Inverness

Haydock 2:20 (UK time)

Charles Hills consistent 3-y-o caught the eye in no uncertain style when finishing behind Soulcombe last time out at York, racing on the wrong side of the track as things panned out and dropping a strong hint that he would be winning soon from this kind of handicap mark. He should get a more positive ride here from Kieron Shoemark, with his stamina for 1m6f firmly established and a bit of potential to keep on progressing after just seven career runs on the turf (and only two over this sapping trip).

Odds: NA

Odds are best odds available as at 9am September 3rd 2022. Odds may now differ.

ITV Racing Tips – Saturday September 3rd

Time (UK)TrackHorseAnalysis
1:15HAYDOCKCAPTAIN WINTERSKevin Ryan’s strapping colt has improved run to run in three career starts so far, overcoming a troubled run through to get off the mark at Thirsk last time out, and he is fancied to handle the jump into listed company at Haydock on Saturday.
1:45HAYDOCKREACH FOR THE MOONJohn and Thady Gosden’s high class 3-y-o was a very expensive failure when turned over at 2/5f at Ascot in June, but he is well worth another chance here to confirm the excellent impression he created on his seasonal debut in the Heron Stakes at Sandown in May. He comes into this prize freshened up after two months off the track, and can have too much speed for these rivals under Frankie Dettori.
2:05KEMPTONDUBAI HONOURWilliam Haggas continues in brilliant form with a strike rate over 30pc throughout the summer, and this useful performer will find this a lot easier than when finishing fourth behind stablemate Baaeed in the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York last time out (far from disgraced under a patient ride from off the pace).
2:20HAYDOCKINVERNESSCharles Hills consistent 3-y-o caught the eye in no uncertain style when finishing behind Soulcombe last time out at York, racing on the wrong side of the track as things panned out and dropping a strong hint that he would be winning soon from this kind of handicap mark. He should get a more positive ride here from Kieron Shoemark, with his stamina for 1m6f firmly established and a bit of potential to keep on progressing after just seven career runs on the turf (and only two over this sapping trip).
2:40KEMPTONUZINSCOJohn Butler’s 6-y-o has a good record at Kempton over the last few seasons, and he should relish a return to this venue after finishing second at Newmarket last time out (finished with running left in the tank in a tactical three runner race that was little use to him on the day).
2:55HAYDOCKSOULCOMBEWilliam Haggas’s progressive handicapper overcame a slow break to cut through the field at York last time out, winning in the manner of a stayer who will be capable of winning at Listed or Group level this Autumn. He now has a career high mark to defy at Haydock on Saturday, but will get the strong pace up front he needs, and can notch win number four this summer if enjoying a clean run through under Cieran Fallon.
3:10ASCOTFRESHJames Fanshawe’s classy handicapper impressed when landing a gamble over this course and distance in July, and has optimum conditions again on Saturday back at Ascot to go in again under Danny Tudhope.
3:30HAYDOCKROHAANDavid Evans sprinter never landed a blow under a very negative ride from well off the pace last time out, but he has been shaping really well previously at Newbury and Deauville, and is well worth chancing at the current prices for this valuable Group 1 prize.
3:45ASCOTTHUNDERINGKevin Ryan’s consistent handicapper posted a career best effort when second in a huge field at York last month, and seems sure to go close here if enjoying any luck in running under the usual hold-up riding tactics.
