Saturday’s Horse Racing Tips: Kelso, Doncaster, Newbury, March 4th

Today’s Racing Tips – March 4th
There are 8 races covered live by the ITV cameras on Saturday, with the best of the action from three jumping venues up and down the UK. Kelso stage there biggest raceday of the season, with the Morebattle Hurdle and Grade 2 novice hurdle both likely to attract runners up from the bigger yards in the South for the excellent prize money on offer. Doncaster and Newbury stage some fiendishly hard to solve handicaps, with the Grimthorpe at 3.15pn likely to be the big betting race of the day over the stamina sapping 3m2f trip.
In this artice:

Today’s Daily Nap
Nemean Lion
Kelso 2:25 (UK time)
Kerry Lee would not be the most regular visitor up to Kelso, but she has her team in terrific form at the moment, and her progressive novice is fancied to land this valuable Grade 2 prize. He ran really well when a close third in the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown last time out, just fading up the final sapping hill on testing ground behind Tahmuras, and there should still be plenty more improvement in the tank after just three runs over hurdles.
Odds: NA
Today’s Value Angle
Cormier
Kelso 1:50 (UK time)
Brian Ellison has some very well handicapped runners to go to war with this spring (after an extremely quiet and disappointing winter), and his reliable performer should now be capable of taking advantage of a falling mark. The yard has hit form this week with a winner in these colours, and this big field handicap is the perfect set up to bring his strong stamina into play at the two mile trip.
Odds: NA
Odds are best odds available as at 9am March 4th 2023. Odds may now differ.
ITV Racing Tips – Saturday March 4th
Time (UK) | Track | Horse | Analysis |
---|---|---|---|
1:15 | KELSO | CASTLE RUSHEN | Nicky Richards chaser has blotted his copybook with jumping mistakes twice already this season, but he is pretty useful when putting in a clean round and has optimum ground conditions at Kelso on Saturday. |
1:30 | DONCASTER | PAY THE PIPER | nn Hamilton’s stable star has won 3 of his 13 starts so far over fences, and returned to his very best form when winning at Musselburgh last time out. Decent spring ground brings out the best of him, and another patient, stalking ride here from Danny McMennamin can see him swoop on the long Kelso run-in. |
1:50 | KELSO | CORMIER | Brian Ellison has some very well handicapped runners to go to war with this spring (after an extremely quiet and disappointing winter), and his reliable performer should now be capable of taking advantage of a falling mark. The yard has hit form this week with a winner in these colours, and this big field handicap is the perfect set up to bring his strong stamina into play at the two mile trip. |
2:10 | NEWBURY | JAY BEE WHY | “Alan King’s quirky performer does not always deliver off the bridle, but he shaped as though on his way back to top form last time out here over three miles and should not mind this drop back in trip (with a strong pace on the cards for Tom Cannon to aim at after the last). |
2:25 | KELSO | NEMEAN LION | Kerry Lee would not be the most regular visitor up to Kelso, but she has her team in terrific form at the moment, and her progressive novice is fancied to land this valuable Grade 2 prize. He ran really well when a close third in the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown last time out, just fading up the final sapping hill on testing ground behind Tahmuras, and there should still be plenty more improvement in the tank after just three runs over hurdles. |
2:45 | NEWBURY | PAINT THE DREAM | Fergal O’Brien’s bold jumping frontrunner is best dominating at Newbury, and these drying ground conditions should make him extremely hard to catch under regular rider Connor Brace. He had little chance in a warm Grade 2 last time out behind the useful Pic D’Orhy, but should find this premier handicap more suitable back going left-handed. |
3:00 | KELSO | MAHONS GLORY | Dr Richard Newland is showing clear signs of a revival after a dismal winter by his high standards, and this ex-Irish performer is completely unexposed for these astute connections after just two runs. He caught the eye in the River Don at Doncaster last time out, and a truly run handicap should be much more suitable now dropping back to 2m5f from 3m. |
3:15 | DONCASTER | COOPERS CROSS | Stuart Coltherd’s progressive northern chaser has now won 3 of his 9 starts over fences, and comes into this valuable Saturday handicap at the top of his game after winning the SkyBet over 3m here last time out. That form has been well franked by the runner-up Cap du Nord, and he should relish every yard of this extra 2f trip under regular rider Sam Coltherd. |
