Saturday’s ITV cameras bring competitive jumps action from Newbury and Warwick, with the recent rain across the country likely to see ground conditions ease quite dramatically. The Betfair hurdle at 3.15pm is likely to be the big betting race of the afternoon, with some very progressive hurdlers locking horns and a huge field assured for the excellent prize money on offer.

Nicky Henderson’s unexposed hold-up handicapper has already shown that really testing ground conditions suit him ideally, and this big field handicap should be run at a really strong gallop to help him drop the bridle in the early stages. He is a very smooth traveller with a turn of foot, and simply found the drying ground against him at Ascot last time out when weakening out of contention from two out behind Luccia. The rain has come just in time with Nico de Boinville booked, and he can defy a career high mark if enjoying any luck in running from rear.

Venetia Williams chaser has always looked a different proposition at Newbury, winning three times and finishing second on another occasion from four visits to the Berkshire venue. He has proved hard to place so far this winter (well backed 3/1f but ruined on a disputed lead at Doncaster last time out), but has ideal conditions here to bounce back to his best under Charlie Deutsch (with the rain that fell in the week very welcome).

1:30	Newbury	Kyntara	Melanie Rowley’s progressive stayer now has a career high handicap mark to defy after a coupe of impressive victories at a lower level, but he travels like one who should appreciate this stronger company and the long Newbury straight should suit ideally. A positive ride from the front is on the cards from the excellent Charlie Deutsch, and he can keep pulling out extra to land this valuable Saturday prize.
1:45	Warwick	Matata	Nigel Twiston-Davies classy chaser is best dominating small fields from the tape, and the sharp left-handed Warwick track should suit ideally on soft ground. He has a high cruising speed when settling into a rhythm under regular rider Daryl Jacob, and remains open to plenty more improvement after three runs over fences this winter.
2:05	Newbury	Shiskin	Nicky Henderson’s smart chaser has plenty of quirks to go with his obvious talent (has refused to jump off), but he has plenty in hand here over some inferior rivals and can take this en-route to another tilt at the Cheltenham festival in March.
2:20	Warwick	Blue Beach	Mel Rowley does really well with limited ammunition, and her consistent mare is expected to relish a return to hurdling at Warwick on Saturday. The softening of the ground in recent days is very much in her favour, and a positive ride from the front is on the cards from Alex Edwards.
