They have Naas, Newmarket and Ripon to study on decent ground, with some decent handicaps to try to solve at HQ (and the top local yards sure to be well represented). Jump fans have lower grade action to study at Stratford, with big fields and a huge family crowd assured.

Andrew Balding has his huge team in excellent order as usual, with 14 winners in the last fortnight at an impressive 23pc strike rate, and his quirky stayer has optimum conditions under Oisin Murphy at Newmarket on Sunday. A big field on fast ground should ensure his proven stamina comes into play late, and the handicapper has cut him a bit of slack by easing his mark down to 96 (competitive in the low 100s last summer and should be sharper for a promising reappearance here two weeks ago).
