There are four handicaps on the programme, with low draws usually a big advantage against the favoured far rail, and a touch of quality with the listed contest for fillies at 3pm. Elsewhere, Chelmsford and Southwell stage low grade all-weather cards, and NH fans have the card at Tramore to attack.

Hughie Morrison’s unexposed 4-y-o had been hinting at better to come in three handicaps prior to taking advantage of a drop down in class at Leicester 18 days ago, and he remains open to plenty of improvement after just four career starts on the turf. This class 4 contest represents a stiffer task than that modest claimer, but he relishes quick summer ground and can go in again under the talented Louis Steward (with the stiff uphill Pontefract finish sure to bring his stamina into play).

Sir Michael Stoute has a terrific record with his rare visitors up north to Pontefract, and his unexposed 3-y-o did well to win at Yarmouth 45 days ago after over-racing for most of that one mile contest. He remains with upside after just five career starts, and will hopefully be allowed to stride on and make all the running by Richard Kingscote (always a big advantage to get the far rail at this track).
