There are five scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with flat fans in for a varied and busy afternoon and evening. They have Chelmsford (AW), Hamilton , Haydock and Leopardstown to study, with some tough handicaps to try to solve at the Manchester venue (and the top northern yards sure to be well represented in the novice/maiden contests). Jumping fans have Uttoxeter to get stuck into, with some big fields as the ground finally dries up.

Cool Dividend
Haydock 3.05 (UK time)
Clive Cox’s unexposed sprinter made a promising start into handicaps on his seasonal debut at Doncaster last month, throwing down a strong challenge despite refusing to settle until after halfway. That first run in over seven months (off a gelding operation) should have brought him on nicely (with the yard now hitting form with 3 winners in the last fortnight), and he remains with plenty of upside in this sphere after just four career starts so far.
Odds: 5.00
Paddys Day
Haydock 3.35 (UK time)
Nigel Tinkler’s 4-y-o handicapper has only won 1 of his 15 career starts on the turf, but he shaped really well last time out tanking through a warm contest at Ayr (picked off late by the strong finishing, well backed favourite Classy Al). He has a chance to dominate these rivals from the stalls under Rowan Scott, and the drying underfoot conditions should make him very hard to reel in over this flat five furlongs.
Odds: 8.00
