There are six meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with competitive handicaps and classy Group races very much the order of the day at Sandown in the evening (as the popular Brigadier Gerard meetings brings some welcome quality to midweek racing). There are supporting flat cards at Catterick, Chelmsford, Haydock and Wolverhampton. NH fans have the evening card at Limerick to study, with a big crowd expected and the action getting underway at 5.30pm.

Haydock 3:30 (UK time)
James Ferguson’s unexposed 3-y-o looked one to follow this season when landing a gamble on the all-weather at Newcastle on his reappearance, and he had excuses when third at Yarmouth last time out (slowly into stride and weakened late on the testing ground). The fast ground expected at Haydock on Thursday should suit ideally, and he remains with plenty of upside after just five career starts.
Odds: NA
Rum Cocktail
Haydock 4:00 (UK time)
Ed Walker’s filly has won 2 of her 11 starts so far, and returned to the fray with a cracking close-up third behind Spoof in a big field at Ascot at the start of the month. She is entitled to come forward for that first run since last September, and the booking of Tom Marquand certainly increases confidence (with quick ground conditions to suit).
Odds: NA
