Alastair Ralph’s novice proved an expensive failure when second at 4/6f over this course and distance earlier in the month under a penalty, but he was left with plenty of ground to make up behind an enterprisingly ridden winner in Jacks Profit, and is likely to get a much more positive ride here. There is loads more improvement in the tank after just three runs over hurdles, and the expected decent ground should be ideal back at Ludlow on Thursday.

Fergal O’Brien has his team back in the groove after a quiet couple of months, and his unexposed 5-y-o remains open to loads of improvement in handicaps on decent ground this spring. He impressed on good ground at Taunton in November when winning despite clear signs of greenness/inexperience, and simply found the Sandown hill too much of a stamina test when a fair third last time out.
