Today’s Horse Racing Tips – June 20th

Day 3 at Royal Ascot features the Gold Cup at 4.25pm, where Aidan O’Brien’s prolific stayer Kyorios is sure to start as one of the shortest priced favourites of the week. There are also really competitive supporting Group races, alongside maximum fields for the handicaps on the prevailing fast ground.

Today’s Daily Nap

Kyprios

Ascot 4.25 (UK time)

Aidan O’Brien’s top class stayer has been aimed at this Group 1 prize all season, and he looks a class or two above some pretty exposed rivals. He has now won 10 of his 14 career starts, often opposed by the bookmakers who are seemingly unimpressed by his tendency to only do just enough in front, and showed this 2m4f marathon trip suited when winning a strong renewal in 2022 in typically workmanlike style.

Odds: 1.91

Today’s Value Angle

Blue Lemons

Ascot 5.05 (UK time)

Richard Hannon’s promising sort has run a lot better than the bare result in two runs in warm handicap company so far this season, and remains open to plenty more improvement after just six career starts (with must faster underfoot conditions likely to help given how powerfully he travels on the bridle).

ITV Racing Tips – Tuesday June 20th

Time (UK) Track Horse Analysis
2:30 Ascot Shareholder Karl Burke’s progressive juvenile might just be overpriced for this valuable Group 2 prize after only winning narrowly at Beverley in June on his debut having been sent off a well backed 6/4f (slowly away, green, wide throughout off a muddling pace in a small field). He should relish the huge field and strong pace assured here now stepping up in class, and the booking of the excellent James Doyle certainly increases confidence he can continue the fantastic recent form of the yard (six winners in the last fortnight).
3:05 Ascot French Duke Roger Varian comes into Royal Ascot week with his team in cracking form (six winners in the last fortnight), and his maiden looks on an attractive opening handicap mark here under the excellent William Buick. He will relish the big field on fast ground, and could improve dramatically if becoming more settled in the early stages (freegoing sort who has been tricky to relax in small fields so far).
3:45 Ascot Kalpana Andrew Balding’s progressive filly bumped into a smart one when turned over at 4/6f at Newmarket last time out (pair rapidly trapping miles clear of the third), and remains open to plenty more improvement after just four career starts.
4:25 Ascot Kyprios Aidan O’Brien’s top class stayer has been aimed at this Group 1 prize all season, and he looks a class or two above some pretty exposed rivals. He has now won 10 of his 14 career starts, often opposed by the bookmakers who are seemingly unimpressed by his tendency to only do just enough in front, and showed this 2m4f marathon trip suited when winning a strong renewal in 2022 in typically workmanlike style.
5:05 Ascot Blue Lemons Richard Hannon’s promising sort has run a lot better than the bare result in two runs in warm handicap company so far this season, and remains open to plenty more improvement after just six career starts (with must faster underfoot conditions likely to help given how powerfully he travels on the bridle).
5:40 Ascot Brackens Laugh Richard Hughes has always held this strapping sort in the highest regard at home, and he shaped really well when second behind the well backed Capulet at Chester last time out in a muddling small field. A faster pace on quicker ground should help him under Danny Tudhope, and this Group 3 looks an excellent piece of placing by his astute connections.
6:15 Ascot Awaal Simon and Ed Crisford’s classy (if frustrating) handicapper often attracted hefty market interest last season without delivering for punters, but he is definitely well capable of going close from this sort of mark and seems sure to be primed first time up for this prestigious prize. The red hot Oisin Murphy booked for the ride, and he will be looking to weave his way through late and fast off what seems sure to be a very strong gallop in a topically competitive renewal of the Buckingham Palace.
