There are five meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with competitive low grade jumps action from Carlisle, Thurles and Wincanton likely to attract the majority of the betting turnover. The unseasonay drying ground has significantly reduced field sizes, although watering should mitigate the worst of the exceptionally dry spell of weather. For AW fans there is action from Southwell and Newcastle, with the lights coming on at 4.45pm at the latter venue and low grade handicaps the order of the day.

Jeremy Scott’s 9-y-o impressed when getting off the mark over fences at Taunton last month (has run himself into peak form run to run this winter), and he has optimum conditions to follow up from his raised mark at Wincanton on Thursday. He remains open to improvement after just four starts over the larger obstacles, and regular rider Rex Dingle will be looking to pick off these rivals late under a typically patient ride.

Nigel Hawke has his team in excellent form in recent weeks, and his veteran 10-y-o has shaped well in defeat all winter in fair staying handicaps. He is often ridden with extreme patience from rear (was quite a hard-puller in his early days), catching the eye last time at Exeter in a fair third, and this looks a very good opportunity to add to his win record of 1 from 17 over hurdles (with regular claiming rider Tom Buckley well aware of all his quirks).
