There are five race meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with two cracking NH cards headed by the start of a two day meeting at Ascot. There are two Grade 2’s, with the novice hurdle (2.20pm) and novice chase (2.55pm) with are to attract high class runners from the big stables. Uttoxeter also stage a competitive card with five handicaps for punters to get stuck into, while all-weather fans have Southwell and two twilight cards at Kempton and Dundalk.

Nicky Henderson’s bumper winner was clearly badly in need of the experience when finishing third behind the classy Stage Stage on his hurdling debut at Newbury 21 days ago, and is confidently expected to improve dramatically for a more positive ride at Ascot on Friday. The step up to 2m5f will definitely suit under Nico de Boinville (likely to make a cracking three mile chaser in time), and his jumping is likely to be a lot slicker too after that educational start.

Nigel Twiston-Davies progressive performer improved dramatically to win a true run Sandown handicap 14 days ago, reeling in the front-running Darebin up the hill and showing a terrific attitude under pressure. A small weights rise should be no issue at all, and there should be loads of natural improvement in the tank after just three runs over fences (jumping taken a while to
gain fluency but has got loads of natural scope).
