There are 5 race meetings in Britain and Ireland on Friday, with three NH fixtures headed by the start of the two day Tingle Creek meeting at Sandown Park in Esher. The highlight on there card is the Grade 2 Ballymore Winter Novice hurdle at 2.25pm, and hopefully the decent eased ground will attract runners from all the top yards. AW fans have a couple of twilight meetings to concentrate on, with Newcastle on the tapeta and Dundalk on the polytrack surface taking over once darkness falls.

Paul Nicholls recent arrival from Harry Whittington made a really impressive start to his hurdling career when making all of the running in a 16 runner Chepstow maiden 30 days ago, and he looks firmly like one who can handle a step up in class to Grade 2 company at Sandown on Friday. A strapping chasing type down the line, he has been ridden from the front on both career wins under Rules so far, and seems to get an attacking ride here from Gavin Sheehan (with the eased decent ground ideal and his pointing background helpful stamina-wise up the sapping hill).

Nicky Henderson’s dual winning hurdler is very much a chaser on looks, and he is fancied to make a winning debut over fences after 238 days on the sidelines. He progressed nicely in a light campaign last term until outclassed in the Sefton at Aintree, and this opening mark straight over the larger obstacles looks on the lenient side (with reports of his schooling very positive).
