There are five meetings in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, with competitive and varied flat action from Epsom, Wolverhampton and Yarmouth sure to attract most of the betting activity. Jumping fans have cards at Ffos Las and Punchestown (opening day of their popular spring festival) to get stuck into, with the recent rain very welcome and a cracking meeting in Ireland sure to be dominated by the all-powerful Willie Mullins yard.

John and Thady Gosden’s Derby entry ran well in victory and defeat three times as a juvenile, and appeals as just the sort to improve this summer as his stamina is drawn out over middle distances. He steps up to 1m2f at Epsom on Tuesday, with Frankie Dettori booked and the drying ground conditions expected to suit (shade laboured on deep ground in Group 1 company at Doncaster in October last year).

Roger Varian’s frustrating handicapper is not the easiest to catch right, often promising more than he delivers off the bridle, but he is now very well treated on the best of his form and fresh first time out might just be the time to be with him under David Egan. He looked very unlucky on his only previous visit to Epsom in June last season, finishing well from miles off the pace, and this 1m2f trip is definitely his optimum on good ground.
