Today’s Horse Racing Tips – February 21st

There are four scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with NH fans in for an informative afternoon. They have Doncaster, Ludlow and Punchestown to study on soft ground, with some decent handicaps to try to solve at the Yorkshire venue in particular. AW fans have decent grade action to study at Kempton, with the lights coming on at 5.30pm at the Sunbury track and the handicaps looking especially competitive for the time of year.

Tim Vaughan’s lightly raced 7-y-o chaser has been building up to peak fitness in two runs so far this winter, catching the eye with a promising fourth at Kempton over Christmas (under a quiet ride out wide from off the pace/tired two out in stronger company). He remains open to improvement over fences after just seven career starts, and the booking of the trainers son Edward Vaughan sees a handy 7lb claim come into play to reduce the burden of topweight (in a weak looking race for the grade).

Sheila Lewis’s unexposed novice has hinted at better to come at big prices in his qualifying runs over hurdles in fair maiden company, and can make a winning switch to handicaps at Ludlow on Wednesday (from a very attractive looking opening mark). Jumping errors blunted his finishing effort last time out, but he had run really well behind the smart Wordsworth at Bangor previously, and this sharp track on drying easy ground should be ideal under Sean Houlihan.
