There are four scheduled meetings in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with NH fans in for an informative afternoon as Cheltenham stage a cracking midweek fixture. Flat fans have Beverley and Newmarket to study on easy ground, with some decent Group and listed prizes to try to solve at HQ (and all the top local yards sure to be well represented). AW fans have decent grade action to study at Kempton, with the lights coming on at 5.30pm at the Sunbury track and the novice contests looking especially competitive for the time of year.

Embesto
Newmarket 3.00 (UK time)
Roger Varian has landed running as the turf season moves up a gear, and his useful performer seems sure to be primed to make a winning reappearance at Newmarket on Wednesday. He progressed well last summer, winning three of his five career starts, and posted a cracking effort when last seem out in a Group 2 at Longchamp in September (refused to settle initially under Cristian Demuro). This Group 3 on drying ground looks the perfect starting point, with the step up to 1m1f likely to suit and James Doyle back in the saddle.
Odds: 4.50
Al Farabi
Newmarket 1.50 (UK time)
Proven race-fitness can count for plenty at this stage of the flat season, and Roger Varian’s handicapper has been running well in defeat on the all-weather in recent months. He is completely unexposed on the turf after just one previous try at Chantilly in the mud for Andre Fabre, and this six furlongs on decent ground should bring about some improvement with Silvestre de Sousa booked to ride for the first time.
Odds: 7.50
