The start of the four day York Ebor meeting is very much the highlight for racing fans on Wednesday, with a cracking card featuring the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes at 3.35pm. This year’s renewal sees the unbeaten Baaeed stepping up in trip for the first time to 1m2f, and his presence is sure to add another few thousand to the gate.
Elsewhere, there is a modest supporting card from Musselburgh, while all-weather fans have Kempton and Wolverhampton to get stuck into. For NH fans there are two competitive evening cards at Sligo and Worcester to study, with plenty of water down to try and keep the jar out of the ground as the heatwave continues.

Deauville Legend
York, 3:00 (UK time)
James Ferguson’s 3-y-o remains open to plenty of improvement after just six career starts, and comes into this valuable Group 2 on the back of a cracking effort in the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood 20 days ago (pulling hard initially but still running on strongly to take second close home behind New London). He will need to settle a lot better in the early stages to see things out under Daniel Muscatt, but should relish the long flat galloping nature of York and his turn of foot will be a potent weapon late on.
Odds: NA
King of Stars
York, 1:50 (UK time)
Mick Appleby’s sprinter has faced some tough tasks in top sprint handicaps all summer, and he has optimum conditions to go close at York on Wednesday with Silvestre de Sousa back in the saddle. He is best dominating on fast ground, and a repeat of his cracking second at Ascot in July would be enough to land this competitive prize.
Odds: NA
