National Hunt Challenge Cup Chase Tips - Cheltenham 2021

National Hunt Chase Tips 2021 – Day 1, 16:50

A real test of stamina to round of the opening day at the 2021 Festival, and through stayers are sure to come to the fore in a race usually run at a blistering gallop from the tape (and the best Irish amateur riders worth siding with for betting purposes). Galvin looks the standout form contender at this stage, with vital Cheltenham chasing experience in the book, and he is the current 5/1f in the early market.

Cheltenham National Hunt Chase 2021 Preview

A 3m5f slog for novice chasers to round off the opening day at the Cheltenham Festival, and this year has a different feel with amateur riders not allowed to participate and professionals taking over in the saddle.

This gives the contest a completely different feel, with the tempo likely to be a bit more measured and thw vast difference in riding abilities not a factor (riders like Jamie Codd have proved a class above their peers over the years).

The betting moves in 2021 have centred around the progressive Royale Pagalle of Venetia Williams, who now seems sure to miss the Gold Cup and head for this easier prize instead (currently a short-priced 7/4f with the bookmakers in a typically light ante-post market).

Next Destination, National Hunt Chase Tip #1

Paul Nicholls chaser has really impressed since returning from 3 years off the track (ex Willie Mullins), and will relish this 3m5f stamina test on decent ground.

Galvin, National Hunt Chase Tip #2

A stiff test of stamina has always promised to suit Gordon Elliott’s progressive 7-y-o, and he showed a liking for this course in three runs so far (one over hurdles in the 2019 Ballymore). He has a bit of potential to keep imporving after 8 runs over fences, and a patient ride in this big field should be ideal with plenty of pace on up front.

National Hunt Chase Winners

A race with a very long history and in the 1930s this was second only to The Grand National at Aintree in the interest generated amongst the wider public. This new Tuesday spot seems a sensible move, and the sight of a huge field of stayers ridden by amateurs is certainly a breathtaking spectacle over the 3m6f trip. In 2020 Ravenhill completed a fantastic day for Gordon Elliott when winning gamely under Jamie Codd, and the experience of the jockeys is always a key factor in the final outcome.
