Supreme Novices Hurdle Tips - Cheltenham 2021

Supreme Novices Hurdle Tips 2021 – Day 1, 13:20

2021 has yet to see the emergence of a real star, but there is little doubt that the Willie Mullins trained Appreciate It ticks all the right boxes after winning both of his runs over hurdles so far. He was very impressive at the Leopardstown Festival over Christmas, and looks the standout Irish contender at this stage with his proven stamina likely to be a big asset on the day.

Supreme Novices Hurdle 2021 Preview

There will be no “Cheltenham roar” to start off the 2021 Festival, with the global pandemic meaning the meeting will take place behind closed doors for the first time in its long history. However, this will not detract from the action on the track, and the week begins with a brilliant test for the best novices in the UK and Ireland.

The standout form contender is undoubtedly Willie Mullins Appreciate It, who has really impressed in winning all three starts over hurdles in Ireland this winter. He is a strong traveler with a high cruising speed, proven on testing and decent ground, and will surely take an awful lot of beating under a positive ride. There are no concerns about the undulating track, with a cracking second in the Champion bumper in 2020 under his belt, and he has been extremely well backed in the ante-post markets in the past few months (now a best priced 7/4f).

Harry Fry’s looks the best chance of the English trained runners, though all of his form is on deep heavy ground (three wins over hurdles including the Grade 1 Tolworth at Sandown in January).

Supreme Novices Hurdle Tips 2021

Appreciate It, Supreme Novice Hurdle Tip #1

Willie Mullins dominated the festival at Leopardstown with six Grade one wins, and this unbeaten hurdler created a deep impression when winning by 9l under a confident ride from Paul Townend on the testing ground. He seemed a very straightforward natural hurdler when winning at Cork previously (having won two bumpers before finishing second in the Champion bumper to Ferny Hollow at Cheltenham).

Harry Fry’s strapping novice took his form to another level when winning a competitive renewal of the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown in January, and he is well worth his place as the leading English challenger for this prestigious opener.

2016 saw the top class Altior land a wholesale public gamble in impressive style, and this is always one of the warmest betting heats of the entire week. Irish runners tend to dominate, and Klassical Dream was a popular winner for Willie Mullins in 2019, ridden with typical confidence by the now retired Ruby Walsh.
