Brown Advisory Novices Chase Tips – Cheltenham 2021

Brown Advisory Novices Chase 2021 Tips – Day 2, 13:55

This Grade 1 Novice Chase has produced some future champions over the years, and the 2021 renewal is sure to be a revealing test. The standout contender is undoubtedly Monkfish, who has jumped superbly at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown since going over fences this winter. His Albert Bartlett win in 2019 shows that Cheltenham suits him ideally, and he is sure to be one of the heaviest backed Irish bankers of the week.

Brown Advisory Chase 2021 Preview

The Brown Advisory Novice Chase has a very one-sided look to it in 2021, with the high class Monkfish currently the 4/6f and most of his rivals scared off into seeking easier opportunities elsewhere over the four days (Royal Pigalle entered up but now heads to the NH Chase).

He has jumped superbly and routed small fields three times over fences in Ireland this winter, looking a complete natural on testing ground. Perhaps drying ground would pose a different challenge, but he showed this course suited fine when winning the 2020 Albert Bartlett in teancious style and it would take a brave man to oppose one of the short-priced bankers of the week.

Brown Advisory Chase Tips 2021

Monkfish, RSA Chase Tip #1

The Albert Bartlett form from 2020 is already starting to work out very well, with the fourth Thyme Hill coming out to win a Grade 1 at Newbury in November impressively. Willie Mullins’ winner of that race was sensibly sent straight over fences given his stature, and he made a fluent start when landing the odds at Fairyhouse in November. He might not have the explosive speed of some of his rivals in a very strong novice chase division, but his battle hardened nature and attitude off there bridle could count for plenty when the chips are down up the Cheltenham hill in March.

Sporting John, RSA Chase Tip #2

Phillip Hobbs novice still has plenty to learn about jumping, but he has a big engine and did very well to win a warm Sandown novice chase last time out (after getting detached in rear following a series of sloppy leaps under Richard Johnson). He should relish this strong run race and stiff uphill finish, and seems sure to have been relentlessly reschooled by his excellent trainer for this valuable Grade 1.

Festival Chase Winners

A compelling Grade 1 Novice Chase over three miles that provides a stern test for inexperienced horses that can leave a mark with regard to their future prospects down the line. There have been some memorable winners of this over the years, with perhaps the errant Might Bite in 2017 the most remarkable, wandering all over the track and almost chucking away certain victory up the hill having been well backed down to 7/2f under Nico de Boinville.
