The 2021 Stayers hurdle will see one of the most eagerly awaited clashes of the week, as old rivals Paisley Park and Thyme Hill are set to do battle over the stamina sapping 3m trip. The 2019 winner Paisley Park was a major disappointment at 4/6f in 2020, but there were valid excuses and he has returned as good as ever in two runs so far this winter (closely matched with the younger and progressive rival)

Thyme Hill, Favourite #1 for Stephen Harris
Phillip Hobbs looked a champion in waiting when winning the Grade 2 Long Distance hurdle on his seasonal debut at Newbury, travelling strongly up the inner on arguably the worst of the ground, and finding plenty to fend off Paisley Park after the last. He lost nothing in defeat when touched off by his old rival in the Grade 1 Long Walk hurdle at Ascot on December 19th, arguably in front too soon and perhaps idling after the last to get pipped on the line. There is loads more improvement in the tank after just six career starts so far (four wins), and he has plenty of Cheltenham experience in the book.

Emma Lavelle’s former champion stayer suffered a heart fibrilation when disappointing at 4/6f in this race in 2020, but he has returned as good as ever this winter and seems sure to be very closely matched with old rival Thyme Hill again.
