JCB Triumph Hurdle Tips - Cheltenham 2021

JCB Triumph Hurdle 2021 Tips – Day 4, 13:20

The Irish juvenile form looks far stronger than their English counterparts in the 2020-2021 season so far, and there is certain to be plenty of confidence behind the highly regarded Zanahiyr and French Aseel. Both come into this stiff test with scope to improve, and have been strongly supported in the ante-post markets in the last few months.

JCB Triumph Hurdle 2021 Preview

The final day of the Cheltenham Festival kicks off with the best juvenile hurdlers from Britain and Ireland locking horns, and the 2021 renewal promises to be the highest quality for many a year. The betting is unusually tight given the wide open nature of this £52,000 Grade 1, with Tritonic and Zanahiyr currently the 5/2jfs and sure to both command a welter burden of support on the day.

Alan King knows how to win this race, with Katchit a memorable winner in recent times, and his useful flat performer created a deep impression when winning both starts over timber at Ascot and Kempton this winter. He is a strong traveller and the stiff uphill finish will certainly bring his proven stamina into play up the hill (stayer on the flat and open to loads of improvement as hurdling technique sharpens).

Triumph Hurdle 2021 Trends

  • 8 of the last 12 winners won their last race prior to Cheltenham
  • 2 of the last 12 winners had raced at least 1 time previously at Cheltenham
  • 9 of the 12 winners had raced at least 2 times previously over hurdles

JCB Triumph Hurdle 2021 Betting Tips

Tritonic, Favourite #1 for Stephen Harris

Alan King’s useful performer off the flat has taken to hurdling like a duck to water this winter, reeling in an enterprisingly ridden frontrunner when winning at Ascot first time out, and then improving to win hard on the bridle in the Adonis at Kempton in February. He will relish the improving ground conditions at Cheltenham, and the stiff uphill finish will bring his proven stamina into play as others may wilt out of things.

Zanahiyr, Favourite #2 for Stephen Harris

Gordon Elliott’s progressive juvenile has landed strong market comnfidence on all three runs over hurdles so far, and he took the step up to Grade 2 company in his stride when winning impressively at Leopardstown on Boxing Day. He has attracted money from all the right faces in the build up to this prestigious prize, and seems sure to be hard to beat if handling the demands of a much bigger field for the first time.

Triumph Hurdle Winners

This Grade 1 hurdle confined to 4-y-o juveniles only has a rich history going back to 1939 and always produces a competitiive contest to decide the best young hurlder from both Britain and Ireland. There have been plenty of shocks over the years to delight the bookmakers, with Countrywide Flame at 33/1 in 2012 the most recent boilover. The last flight departure of the heavily backed Goshen was another bitter pill for punters in 2020, with Gary Moore’s charge 15l clear and set to land an alighty plunge when disaster struck.
