Mirabeau En Provence Handicap 2020
Race 1, Thursday, July 30th, 1:10pm
A class 3 handicap, confined to 3-y-o’s only and run over the minimum trip of five furlongs. Speed will be the key to deciding the outcome, with the ground drying out through the week after a very sunny and warm couple of days in Sussex. The prize money of just under ten thousand pounds is pretty good in these stricken times for racing, and a competitive field is sure to be attracted.
Unibet Handicap 2020
Race 2, Thursday, July 30th, 1:45pm
This Class 2 handicap is run over one mile two furlongs, and is open to three year olds only with excellent prize money of £75,000. Only 11 runners were declared in 2019, but usually a far bigger field is expected and the compressed season in 2020 is likely to produce nother very competitive contest.
Richmond Stakes 2020
Race 3, Thursday, July 30th, 2:15pm
This Group 2 six furlong contest is open to two year old colts and geldings, with £200,000 in prize money on offer and all of the top yards represented. It can often attract runners who performed in the top two year old races at Royal Ascot, and the form is usually very strong going forwards. All runners carry 9 stone, with a 3lb penalty for previous Group 1 and 2 winners.
Gordon Stakes 2020
Race 4, Thursday, July 30th, 2:45pm
The only Group race on the day, open to three year olds only and run over one mile four furlongs. All runners are to carry 9 stone 1lb, with a 3lb allowance for fillies and a 7lb penalty for previous Group 1 winners (5lb for Group 2 and 3lb for Group 3).
Nassau Stakes 2020
Race 5, Thursday, July 30th, 3:15pm
A valuable Group 1 contest, run over one mile two furlongs and open to filles and mares (aged three years old and upwards). The prize money of £600,000 attracts a high quality field, and the winner alone collected £340,260 in 2019. The 3-y-o’s are allotted to carry 8 stone 13lb, while 4-y-o+ have 9 stone 7lb.
Gusbourne Nursery Stakes 2020
Race 6, Thursday, July 30th, 3:45pm
This seven furlong handicap is open to two year olds only, and with all the top yards represented it can often be extremely strong summer form that works out well going forwards. Mark Johnston always targets this week, and it seems certain that he will have a stong team assembled in a bid to repeat his 2019 in this race.
Fillies Maiden 2020
Race 7 Thursday, July 30th, 4:20pm
A run of the mill Class 2 fillies maiden, open to two year olds only and with £25,000 in prize money always attracting a big field. All runners carry nine stone and luck in running is a huge factor, with racing experience in short supply and the unique undulations of Goodwood testing the mettle of these raw youngsters.
Tatler Nursery 2020
Race 8 Thursday, July 30th, 4:55pm
A lowly Class 3 handicap for three year olds only, with £25,000 in prize money giving a chance to some modest sprinters at this level. A wide open betting heat is usually the order of the day, with bookmakers offering 1/4 of the odds 1,2,3,4 in fields of 16 runners or more.
Glorious Goodwood 2020 Day 3 Races
Thursday is traditionally Ladies Day at Glorious Goodwood, with high fashion and a bumper crowd usually basking in the sunshine on the Downs. 2020 will have a completely different feel however, with the stands empty bar a few trainers and broadcasters, but the betting promises to be equally fierce. Three Group races give the card a high quality feel, while three handicaps and a fillies maiden ensures there is something for all followers of the sport.
